The Official College of Physicians of Zaragoza and the Aragonese Society of Cardiology have established the foundations for creating a "Medical Guide for Exercise Prescription," applicable to people with heart disease, among other patient groups. Its development has been commissioned to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit of the H. Nuestra Señora de Gracia in Zaragoza and the Aragon cardiac rehabilitation patients' association, "Re-late."
From antiquity to modern science
The expression "mens sana in corpore sano" (Juvenal, 1st-2nd century AD), expressed a request to the gods. It was a moral reflection, not a sports motto.
Claudius Galenus (129-210) considered that health depended on the balance between body and mind, defending exercise, good nutrition, moderation and emotional control as its fundamental elements.
Currently, physical health and mental health complement each other. SCIENCE confirms that exercise improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system, strengthens muscles and bones, regulates metabolism and reduces the risk of chronic diseases. In addition, it stimulates the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters that favor psychological well-being, reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
Exercise is the best medicine you can take for your body and mind, with the advantage that it has no negative side effects.
